Adrian Mole once was a teenager. Son of
divorced parents, passionate to a very peculiar girl who frustrates all
of his sexual impulses, faced with the gay option of his best friend,
with no money for a working stereo or even for a decent bike, this english
boy knows nothing more than bad luck, spots, school exams and rejection
letters from the BBC, to his "modern" poetry.
I don't know until what extent did anyone identify himself with the boy who writes diaries since he was 13 3/4 years, but I did identify myself with Adrian. Not that I am a son of divorced parents, not that I have ever tried sex for grapes, not that I have ever taken care of a old man named Bert, but Adrian is such a complex person, that in his richness, we will always find points of contact with our own reality. The pictures show the 2nd of the Adrian Mole's diaries, «The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole». |

One day, I was offered a compilation of all the Adrian
Mole's diaries. This superb book includes an "unpublished
diaries" section, never translated to the portuguese language, as
far as I know.
By the end of this book, Adrian Mole is 25 years old, is learning about becoming a writer and, more than ever, is alone and sad (well, not quite...). Pandora, his whole existence's love, becomes a truly detestable woman, as other personages, neutral until then, assume a more active role. |
TABLE #2 - The "Adrian Mole" Portuguese books

The 1st diary.
It was adapted to several plays, to a BBC's TV series and to a computer adventure game, for several platforms, including the ZX SPECTRUM! |

The 2nd and most popular of the diaries!
It was adapted to plays, to TV and to computer games. It was the spark to loads of debates about the adolescence, mainly in the United Kingdom. |

The "True Confessions of Adrian Mole" is
a slightly different book, still in a diary fashion, but not so regular
and more introspective.
Contains the 1st know pages of the "Secret Diary of Margarida Hilda Roberts". |

The "Wilderness Years", should have been titled "The
Bitter Years", as it was the title of the portuguese edition.
Adrian is really having a hard time and many people that we expected to help him, are turning their backs on the boy! Pandora becomes absolutely horrible and Barry Kent is now a fine lad! |
