Another 23 hours, another update :-)
Today's contents, for now, are: #1) G-Loto is moving; #2) SK is dead; #3) Picture of the Day is NOT me!
The wait is almost over. Next weekend, I am willing to put G-Loto 1.0 on-line. G-Loto is a computer program that uses genetic algorithms to improve the chances of winning on ANY loto, worldwide! This means that you can use the software to play in Portugal, USA, England, China... wherever... You can get the paper, from the Computer Projects section.
Today's paper is ONLY available in portuguese language, but by friday, the latest, I will have an english version on-line. The program itself is written in C and "speaks" english. More details, soon.
G-Loto will debut at the 3rd Workshop on Genetic Algorithms and Artificial Life.
Remember that all this effort is only possible if people keep supporting my website, by visiting it, sending opinions, sending their own ideas, requests, etc... all feedback is welcome. Whenever I have the time, I will answer. I receive +50 personal e-mails a day. You must have some tolerance.
Stanley Kubrik is dead. You simply have NO IDEA of how sad I am. SK is not like anything there is or shall EVER be. SK has always been an independent filmmaker, and this means that in 1950 - some 4 decades earlier than the day people worldwide started talking about "independent films" - he was already running his own productions, with very low budgets... so low that even in relative terms, by today's standards, he couldn't pay a single actor.
Stanley Kubrik is very special to me, because of 3 movies:
- 2001, A Space Odyssey
- Dr. Strangelove or How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb
- A Clockwork Orange
2001 is a 1968 movie! Never before, and never since, a film had captured a book [by Arthur C. Clarke - The Sentinel] so well. If you want your brain to get really introspective, get to see 2001.
Dr. Strangelove is a terrific comedy. Other people might no think of it this way, but I will always have a [sarcastic] laugh with this one.
Clockwork Orange... oh boy, this one has got to be eternal! It's still somewhat un-expicable the status and cult the movie raised, but I guess it's all about the strange cocktail of sex, technology, violence and socialism... Young men driving fast cars, looking for where to burn their energies, in an England where people are strange... so strange that, despite loads of brutality, we only get disturbed and against Alex, by the time he spanks an old man... all the other scenes, where girls get raped, houses get robbed and cars get smashed... are quite fun, to be honest.
I remember the first time I enjoyed Clockwork Orange. It was on a HITACHI VHS player, and I was with my pals Henrique and Rolinha [are you reading this? E-mail me!]... We were OUT OF CONTROL, by the time Alex was driving the sports' car in a very narrow road, at some xxx mph, making everyone else crash against trees! Ah ah ah ah! Un-explicable, that's what I have to say!
I will never forget SK! We take NOTHING from this life, but we can have a great time while here, and this man really provided for the rest of the planet. We all owe him.
