I simply can't believe the HYSTERIA of many chinese about their Yugoslavia embassy being hit, NOT on purpose, during the conflict that currently runs there. On the other side, IF I remember some of the politics of the chinese regime, such as the way births are controlled, or the way some [politically inconvenient] manifestations are repressed, I find a way of understanding that extreme behavior! Chinese seem very short on memory.

China is the most populous country in the world: 1/5 of Earth's population lives there.

Video section

By the end of the week, under the computer projects section, I will debut a NEW video section, from where many interesting videos will be made available, including the long promised Internet documentary that the ARTE channel broadcasted from ASTRA and EUTELSAT arrays, for Europe, last April. Just one thing: I will try to lower the image quality of my original MPEGs, but you should still expect BIG files (10 MB or more). So, when those files are on-line, be sure to use some http resumer, such as getright or godzilla. My website supports both http and ftp resuming!

If you don't want to spend [may be] hours downloading that stuff, I have some mpeg video CDs already available for exchange / order, from the trade center section. Pay it a visit. Remember that all videos are spoken on their original language, but some have [european] portuguese sub-titles. I am very much interested in any Buffy, the Vampire Slayer material, be it DVD, LD, VCD or home made MPEGs.

Why Video @ the Computer Projects section?

Good question. I believe that digital video editing is still not as trivial as software packages try to sell you. Video editing is not easy. If you use very high level packages, such as ULead's video editor, you won't have the tools for nothing really interesting; if you have the money for Adobe Premiere, you will have a very hard time trying to do MPEGs, which is the file format that you are really looking for. Xing has MPEG encoder / exporter plug-in for Premiere 5.x, but it doesn't work 100% ok for sound. So you are stuck, unless you have faced these problems so many times, using so many different tools, that you do manage to edit MPEG in a reasonable time window. I will post tutorials on certain software packages.

The tutorials will also cover the advantages / disadvantages of some codecs [compression / decompression algorithms], which many newbies to digital video don't understand. For example, people tend to confuse AVI with a codec... file formats are not codecs. Later then.

bill_gates_vs_michael_flatley.jpg (25346 bytes) Bill Gates vs Michael Flatley

The german MTV, broadcasting from the ASTRA array of satellites, which are very easy to tune in Europe, even with modest antennas, featured Bill Gates in its regular sunday's "Celebrity Deatmatch". Bill faced Michael Flatley, a music scene dude. The fight was the one of the funniest ever! There were some memorable moments, such as women going hysterical on the vision of Bill's body, Bill training against a Microsoft robot, and the way Gates won!

Gates' victory was not a complete triumph, as you are probably thinking... It was the robot that kicked Michael out of the ring, but then the robot had this Microsoft bug :-) and it just would not stop fighting against every moving thing...

I've edited a small [900 KB] mpeg video, that you can play with any mpeg video player, and that shows a very small fraction of the combat's introductory scene. Try it.

AUDIO is coming

My AUDIO website, for the portuguese magazine "AUDIO", will debut this week. The site will regularly offer articles, music mpegs and music mp3s. Un-missable. Soon.
