Today [22:39]: #1) Aliens versus Predator #2) What's your health condition?

A dead Alien... this one costed many pulse_riffle bullets, since it was not shot at the head.

A walking [visible] Predator. This is a rare sight.

Aliens versus Predator [AvP]

You certainly remember films of the Aliens and Predator series. Would you prefer to have an Alien or a Predator on your bedroom, by night? You really don't have to answer :)

Both are very deadly; the Alien is faster; the predator has more tricks and handles more hits... But, if you are really straight, go ahead and kill them both, as a US Marine! Yes, you can now know what feels to be an Alien, a Predator, and Ripley [the Marine], in the hardest and most atmospheric game of the year!

Being the Marine, which is the way most people will first play, is a nightmare. The only good thing is that you have many weapons at your disposal and... you are more or less familiarized with its first person perspective. However, the marine is just human and a Predator can wipe him out, without even turning off his invisibility mode... On the other hand, the Aliens infestation is so nasty, that you'll end up shooting tens of them per minute, if you have the ammo, the guts, the speed and the luck... Being the Alien is a strange thing...

So, Fox Interactive is the name behind AvP [Aliens versus Predator], an adventure that you can live in "training", "realistic" or "Director's cut" modes. I've been trying the "Director's cut" mode, as a Marine. I can tell you that AvP redefines horror in videogaming! Play it at dark, with the best hardware you can, and I assure you some genuine frights! Its just like the movie! There is such an ambiance, that the player does get into the story... it really is a whole new quality sensation! Be afraid, like you have never been on a "game".

I managed to complete Marine's episodes 1, 2 and 3. But Director's cut of episode 4 is [nearly?] impossible to finish. Not only you have to worry with a gigantic Alien infestation, but you also have to deal with Predators, which are very, very hard to kill. And if that was not enough, you have to twist your way through very narrow dark corridors... Seems hard? Now add to this cocktail the rare Xenoborg creature, kind of crossover between Aliens & Predators... requiring the double of the charge that puts a Predator down...

A burning Alien...

...can still run and attack you, catching you fire!

What's your health condition?

I am not trying to write a AvP review. I am just telling you my gaming status. But the point I would really like to focus you on is "can future videogames be really dangerous"?

I mean, AvP is really _not_for_cardiacs_ ... You do get very genuine sudden scares, that rev up your pulse... now if things have come this far, just wonder how things will be in 5, 10 years time! I bet that there will be software being sold with labels advising how strong can its sensations be! I can hardly wait :)

It is a well known new phenomenon, that some people keep fit, thanks to videogaming! There are games very demanding [physically]... GP Legends [GPL] comes to mind: in order to drive a decent lap in with a force feedback steering wheel, you'll shake on the chair, apply pressure on pedals, lean while turning, while doing a permanent ugly face [!]. I bet you'll end up sweating a lot. At least, I do.

If you don't know about GPL, go visit the APR website.
