I bet you would like these two
on your floor too, right? Sorry, they are priceless.
Ah, but you can watch their original
digital picture, taken with my very recent SONY DIGITAL MAVICA camera, by
clicking on the image.
Impressive stuff! [read

MAVICA
Duckies
These cute loving duckies live in my computer room
for almost 3 years. They have the world record of the longest kiss
ever, since they are kissing... precisely since July 1996...
The pink duck is a she. The christmas duck is a
he, and he is some months older. The he-duck lived alone until the
she-duck came around. They met in Lisbon, Portugal, and they were photographed
with a SONY DIGITAL MAVICA camera, using auto-focus, steady-option,
low flash and regular quality, on my dark room, yesterday.
The picture on the left has a quality much, much
lower than the original. I am very impressed with the MAVICA camera,
which can also grab real-time MPEG1 with sound! Everything is then
recorded to a standard floppy disk.
Now, with a digital camera on my hands, expect the
voyeur to be much more active :)
The DIGITAL MAVICA is a superb SONY still camera,
that can record still pictures in JPG and BMP formats, also generating
a HTML file that links to the contents on the floppy disk it uses as
the persistent memory media. Being limited by the 1.44 MB capacity
of the floppies, it might seem that the MAVICA does not perform @ top
level with current best digital cameras, but the truth is that SONY's
proposal outperforms almost all the competition:
- very high quality optical lens with [selectable]
shutter speeds up to 1/4000 and an optical zoom up to 14x, with a minimal
focus distance of just 1 cm!
- 800.000 pixel CCD.
- a single floppy can handle ~18 normal quality
JPEG pictures, ~11 fine quality JPEG pictures, 1 uncompressed max quality
BMP [1024x768], ~15 seconds 320x240 MPEG video, and many other modes.
I must stress that the normal quality is very, very good!
- you can control the white balance, a flash, the
exposure, etc... very PRO stuff!
- using a floppy has disadvantages... and advantages:
when you ran out memory, you don't have to go dump the camera's contents
to a PC; you just change the disk :)!
- the fact that you can capture and generate MPEG
video on real-time, is technically very impressive. It is really extreme
hardware!
