GIL has babies!!!

SKisahsm@aol.com has some GIL babies! These are the first GIL babies to come from non-portuguese parents, and they look great! Way to go GIL! Just in case you don't known, GIL is a fertile creature for the most advanced commercial Artificial Life product in existence - the game Creatures 2. GIL was engineered to be different from standard creatures and he can also survive under water. You can reach the GIL's babies homepage at http://members.xoom.com/SKisahsm/ but the new stuff will only be available from tomorrow. Meanwhile, visit my own GIL page in this same web. GIL is just one of my public computer projects.

WinAmp in Trouble?

WinAmp, the popular MPx player is in trouble... PLAYMEDIA SYSTEMS is taking to court a case where NULLSOFT (the software house behind WinAmp) gets accused of ripping code that decodes MPEG files. If the charges are true, NULLSOFT may have to pay 20 million USD!! to PLAYMEDIA. WinAmp is the most successful of the MPx players, mostly used to read MP3 files. The program still does not decode MP4 music, but that isn't enough to stop a daily average of 100.000 users of downloading it! That is too many people!, so many people and so much money that if there really is any "alien code" in WinAmp, my guess is that no one would like to be in WinAmp's skin :-).

Forget MP3, MP4 is accelerating

MP4 is growing VERY strong in the last few days. Launched last January, the new audio format is growing on popularity, by offering music demos from mp4.globalmusic.com. What is the difference to MP3? Well, files are smaller and the sound quality is better, although that is an option of the compression scheme. Anyway, neither MP3 or MP4 have enough quality to be enjoyable at high volumes on decent audio hardware. Just try to pump up the volume in high pitched solos or very bass circumstances... yeah, sound will NOT be realistic at all; it will be easy to spot some "holes" in the music. We must wait for a faster Internet, in order to download high quality music, but until then, if you're just chasing some easy listening, go ahead and try it!

Beware of Mobile Phones!

There still are no scientific evidences that mobile phones pose health threats, but there is a growing number of cases of people complaining of problems, after long periods of cell phone' talking, normally due to professional obligations. The latest case affects British Telecom (BT), that was sued by an ex worker, that now suffers from very frequent memory lapses, after years of using one these phones, at work. It seems that he had reported his growing lapses, but no one cared... until today.

Stop using the cell phone! It's cheaper that way! Is it possible that in a near future, Telecom companies will have the legal problems that today's tobacco companies face? My guess is...

Free PC, at a publicity cost

If you don't mind being smashed with constant publicity, there is a FREE PC waiting for you! www.free-pc.com is GIVING away (COMPAQ) computers to those who are willing to watch the banners of paying advertisers. Each advertiser must pay 10.000 USD to be on your free PC, and the publicity is downloaded from the HD, meaning that it will display even when you are not on-line. I don't know more details, such as: "and if I format the HD?", so please don't ask. If I was in the USA, I would want such a machine and try it all :-). After all, it is for FREE!

FTP Server waiting for the 1st upload

If you have REQUESTS for the FTP server, e-mail them to *contact*, and they will be posted in this front page! When someone uploads something that corresponds to your request, I will make the document or file available via http links, to everyone else! Read about the FTP server and help building it up!

Picture of the day:

Again, we take nothing from this life, except for the memories of GREAT moments. This picture was taken some years ago, when GUNS N' ROSES were at Alvalade - Lisbon - Portugal. I've forgotten the names of the boys and girls that are surrounding me, but we were all at the 1st row for the concert, after many hours waiting for the gates to open.

If you recognize yourself at the picture, or know anyone on the picture, PLEASE drop me a line!! Distance should be no enemy to friendship! So, spread the word and bring your fellow rockers to check this photo. There is a BIG story behind the picture, but I will only make it public in a few days!
