I hope YOU keep visiting my web. I am offering too much stuff, for nothing, and I really expect people to appreciate some FREE quality content, showing their appreciation by spreading the word and bringing in more visitors. That is the only way that publicity free, content rich sites will remain to exist, in a growing commercial Internet.
Kevin Mitnick, the world's most famous computer hacker, is now probably facing his last moments in prison. It is almost sure that Kevin will plead guilty, while the accusation may allow him to work with computers, in the future. It has been a hard negotiation: Mitnick has the right to work on the subjects he knows about, but the accusation also has a point on objecting to this interpretation of the first amendment, as the hacker did cause havoc amongst cellular telephone manufacturers, until 1995. What Kevin Mitnick will NOT do, is earn money from his story. This means that you ever come to see an official Mitnick book or movie, the man, if respecting the law, will NOT be making money from it.
There is something very special about the Mitnick case, because it is kind of a first... Kevin was in prison 4 consecutive years, without trial AND without bail, and this worries everyone in the computer community, because if someday someone else is caught in similar situation, that someone will face this precedent of disregard of conventional procedures.
Go write a book! (in less than 24 hours)
Big names like www.internet-fiesta.org (Internet Fiesta), www.isoc.org (Internet Society), and http://europa.eu.int (European Commission), are sponsoring the project "a book on LINUX, in less then 24 hours". Come join us, as we try to break the world record on speedy writing :-).
The name says it all: it's a bunch of LINUX users, trying to write a book about their loved Operating System. It is a huge collaborative work, from what may result a crappy amount of text, or something very interesting. Let me express one ZERO popular, but valid, opinion about LINUX: IF this O.S. was where it is today, some 5 years ago, all the current hype would be justifiable, but now there are many other O.S(s) as stable, as usable and as supported, if not more, than LINUX, which makes it kind a big retro experience for UNIX lovers and for everyone else not satisfied with the alternatives. LINUX is no longer an alternative; it is mainstream...
The APAA (Astronomy) web is giving me some trouble, and its debut has been delayed to later this night, or tomorrow night.

Picture of the day: [click on the picture for a FULL PAGE version] While reading the April edition of the portuguese magazine SUPER-INTERESSANTE, I've found an article about a huge boat [they say it is the biggest in the world], the "Grand Princess", which they call a "transatlantic" and a "paquete" in the same article... quite strange... The "Ecstasy" may not be as big as the "Grand Princess" [if they are correct] but it is ENORMOUS! I've taken this picture (from a HI8 movie) in KEYWEST, an american island, while being ~1 km far away from the superliner!!!! I will keep my promise of doing some web pages about the wonderful experience that is to take a cruise on "Ecstasy". It is like NOTHING else on the world. That boat has that name for some reason, I suppose :-) |
