On-line pornographic activities are under fire in Australia and Japan. The Australian government is asking people to complain about porn sites, to the Australian Broadcasting Authority, who will then notify the Internet Service Providers to REMOVE and even DISABLE access to those websites.
In Japan, a man was convicted for posting porn content, for almost one year, although it is VERY ARGUABLE that that was a legal thing to do, according to many. Atushi was indeed posting porn material, but FROM an USA server, meaning that he should have NOT been judged by Japanese law.
My opinion:
Many academics and scientists are finding TREMENDOUS similarities between the rise of the Internet and the rise of periods like the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. During those periods, there was an EXPLOSION of new ideas and attitudes, and some persecutions to some leaders. There are many people currently having a hard time with the POWER of the FREEDOM of the INTERNET!, and they are driving all their conventional resources against this freedom. These people are sometimes GOVERNMENTS, and I think that the Australian government is just one EXAMPLE. I mean: by disabling access to porn, you are not solving a problem, IF that is a problem at all - you are only making it harder to manifest, on your tiny portion of the world.
I think that there should be ZERO restrictions in the Internet. TOTAL FREEDOM, to ALL THE CONTENTS, no matter how shocking, no matter nothing! Only by facing ALL THE CHANCES, we will, some day, evolve to a state where the legitimate options have survived! It's a kind of a natural selection.
FREEDOM, as Braveheart once screamed! What are your ideas on this one?

The 1999 Best Picture and big winner of the Oscars' night was "Shakespeare In Love". On the stage, receiving the most important award, were Donna Gigliotti, David Parfitt, Harvey Weinstein, Edward Zwick and Marck Normal. I would say it was a too much italian night, with stupid W. Goldberg insisting that 1999 was the last year of the XX century! I wonder how they will turn that around, next year... |
