Aliens are nice pets. Their only problem is dripping on the floor. |
Yes, go ahead and download the rare full quality JPEG of an Alien, from "Alien Legacy". The THX DVD collector's edition of the movie, sells with some special postcards. Here is one of such postcards. You can watch it bigger, by clicking the picture on your left. If you are interested in more Alien postcards, there is one @ audiopt.com Talking about my other websites, did you visit APAA today? From now on it is also available in BOTH english and portuguese languages!, thanks to Darian C. Haffner. APAA stands for "Association of Portuguese Amateur Astronomers". |
Microsoft just released DirectX 7 FINAL. This version is NOT the one some sites are offering and that corresponds to the final beta, previously available to beta testers. This version updates ALL the DX APIs, from DirectDraw to DirectMusic, leaving them all @ version 4.07.00.0700. It is a somewhat heavy download [~ 6 MB], but it is very much worth your time. Current software doesn't exploit the DX7 suite, but future releases will use it a lot, as DirectMusic is becoming well known to programmers, and as hardware is giving support to the new texture function in DirectDraw.
I am not quite sure if this version represents more Frames per Second [FPS] to actual games, but it should... I only had time to test it with GP Legends, but that game doesn't output more than 38 FPS, under any circumstances, so it really didn't give me any clue...
I am mirroring this file for the next few hours only, so if you are lost on the Microsoft site, confused with "beta final" and "final" releases, or just end up reading EULAs, without the downloading the goods, go ahead and get DX7 FINAL [~ 6 MB EXE]! After you've downloaded the file, execute it and follow the instructions.
I've been trying to use 3DSMAX2 on my main PC, but I find it too hard on my system resources. It almost doesn't affect my available memory, but it somehow drains "other resources" to as low as 6% available... making it [sometimes] impossible to display dialog boxes!! Again, I can assure you it is not a memory affair: having some physical 512 MB, and a static sized swap file, I can check that their availability never goes under 300 MB!...
So what "other resources" is 3DSMAX2 using? Do you have the answer? contact me.
