Countdown...

- any time now, I will publish some new Computer Science papers that will spice up the Computer Projects section :) Some of these papers are relative to international conferences!

- I have plans for a PC-Guia section, from where you will be able to download the upcoming CDROM contents and interfaces. PC-Guia is a monthly portuguese publication, from Future Publishing. The PC-Guia section will also include my somewhat popular editorials.

- the whole website might just get a new look, in order to better integrate with Alain Prost Racing. As arturmarques.com grows in popularity, it makes sense to make it the single point entrance to my personal world.

The Renegade can land on water and it is very easy to fly! I just love it!

The Trainer is so easy to fly that you really must do it the wrong way, in order to crash...

Flight Unlimited 3 delivers!

I remember Flight Unlimited [FU] rendering the most amazing real-time graphics, years ago, on MS-DOS. The game not only had a superb look, but also a very good flight model. FU was the first PC software to really put a challenge on Microsoft's Flight Simulator, despite the emphasis not being the extreme simulation of every plane. What FU was interested on then, was allowing a kind of sense of freedom, while inside of a virtual aircraft.

I never managed to lay my hands on FU2, so I don't know what really changed, months latter. But now, the FU series goes #3, on a 3 CD pack, requiring a minimum install of 700 MB and a recommended configuration of over 2 GB!!

As last week's Apache Havoc references might show, I am quite new to flight simulators, meaning that I don't understand some stuff, such as the manual radio communications or all the plane's indicators. Time will teach me.

For now, FU3 delivers everything the way it always did, but on a much bigger scale! Irresistible!

Your first real mission is "the bank the job". Don't be late...

The cops will do everything to bring you to an hold. This dude just crashed...

Driver

GT Interactive, of Unreal and Unreal Tournament fame, brings you Driver, a Playstation [PSX] hit that sells a lot, looks good, plays OK, but that doesn't feature nothing really remarkable. I own both the PSX and the PC versions of the game, and my first comment is about speed: the PSX version is nearly ridiculous, on how slowly it renders highway traffic... you can be speeding some 90 mph, and still have the time to perform all the imaginable moves, to avoid incoming cars... The clever thing is that despite being slow, Driver is slow on his special unique way, that most people don't notice or care about...

Driver is very much like a Destruction Derby #3. It will hook you the same way Destruction Derby did, and it will always feel like playing an unfinished product, that might crash any time! The game just doesn't appear to be solid enough, although I had no problems with it, when using the Glide 2 acclamation. Other people are still trying to boot it, while a much needed patch is on the making...

Your first attempts @ Driver will undoubtedly show that the hardest mission is... getting a real mission! In fact, mission #0 - which requires you to perform loads of maneuvers in less than one minute - will make you sweat, while what is next is much easier, at least for a while.

Great fun!

Semi-pro machines are much better than the "advanced" models.

Revolt's cups

The Platinum cup is Revolt's extreme challenge. After the Gold cup placing you @ wonderful tracks, that go for names as brilliant as "Toytanic", you have to face a 5 events season, against the best cars. It can be hard!, but the game's learning curve is just right, showing an unusual attention to proper game testing! Despite being the game's greatest challenge, the Platinum cup doesn't unveil all the cars - the best gear you can hope for is a semi-pro machine... I wonder what comes next...
