The blue whale... is the biggest moving creature to have ever lived on Earth, even bigger than the gigantic dinosaurs. Sequoias and corals are much bigger, tough. Japan keeps hunting the few 100, 200 blue whales that still live...
Brazil still holds the amazon jungle but the destruction rhythm is so high, that there will be no such thing in 2080...
J. K. Rowling was an english teacher at Portugal. Now she is one of the richest writers on the planet, thanks to Harry Potter... |
the
end of the world?
The world is changing too fast. In the last 50 years, humans consumed more natural resources than the sum of the activities of all other species that have ever lived! The last 50 years held such a chaotic waste of our planet, that Earth is now paying an extremely high price that may result in the end of all carbon based life, in the long run. For example, did you know that until 2100 it is estimated that oceans will rise so much, that the Netherlands will SINK?! And did you know that Brazil will burn the entire Amazon jungle, before 2080? Dramatic! The consequences of the global warming, global deforestation, and growing pollution also include the extinction of 50% of ALL KNOWN life forms! In 20 years time, there will be ZERO wild elephants, ZERO wild rhinoceros, ZERO asian tigers, ZERO giant pandas, ZERO thousands of south american insect species, ZERO blue whales... and 7 BILLIONS of humans, 70% living in Asia, Africa and South America. What a beautiful world... we once had... Everyone lives with a very short term evaluation of everything. We don't think about what world we will have the next day. We keep following the easiest path, something that in AI is called the greedy algorithm... And we are really greedy! Most people are robots. They wake up, they go to work, they answer the answers they are expected to answer, they do their jobs the way they are expected to do; then they return home and stupidify themselves in front of a TV, usually watching the dumbest possible shows. Most people are not much different from farm pigs. Strong sentence, but true: farm pigs are useful to a farmer, who feeds them and profits from them; people are useful to an institution, that profits from their work... Pigs work for food and are profitable as food. People work for money and are profitable as [in]direct money makers. Being cerebral animals, people tend to get tired very easily, so we just don't have the strength to fight for a path, other than the easiest. And the whole world is built on that assumption. Please wake up and start fighting for some quality! We can have a better world! J. K. Rowling, former portuguese teacher Portugal is known for NOT rewarding teaching well enough. Being a teacher is an extremely stressing job that requires constant learning and implies a strong exposure to many people. This includes students, who may be hormonal creatures, [unfortunately] educated by TV morons... I have a great story about a former PT teacher... In September 1999, for the 1st time ever, the New York Times bestseller list had an author starring with 3 different books, at the 3 top positions! It was / is J. K. Rowling. Not bad at all, for a woman who had a hard time being an english teacher at Portugal and an harder time living in Scotland and having her work regularly rejected by publishers! JKR married with a portuguese journalist, had a daughter in 1993, divorced in 1995, and got published in June 1997. Fast. JKR now lives on the success of Harry Potter. All her books are about Harry Potter, a boy who learns magic abilities at age 11 and then goes to a School of Witchcraft and Wizardry :). Harry Potter's first book is The Philosopher's Stone, and was awarded many prizes as a Children's book. Beware that JRK's fiction is as popular with adults, as with children! Warner Brothers bought the rights for a Harry Potter movie. The problem is that some stupid USA / Virginia folks are not happy with Harry Potter knowing magic. They say that is a bad thing... as if such thing exists in real life! ARGH! The USA, the greatest country in my reference, also homes some of the most incredibly stupid people! Kansas and Colorado are sad examples of the power religion still has... did you know that students from these states "don't need to believe / accept Darwin's theory of evolution"? Days ago I also watched a documentary on the russian youth, and there were some girls who "don't believe man comes from apes"... oh boy... get a mirror... The end of the world? Brazil and South America in general, are huge soap-operas / tele-novelas exporters. This is TV at its lowest. Repetitive stories that last for hundreds of episodes, always telling the same thing: kiss me, kill me, bla bla bla. They contribute to the global stupidification phenomenon, not forgetting the global warming... Did you know that +70% of Brazilians can't read and write?
J. K. Rowling has a portuguese daughter, from a portuguese father... but Harry Potter is inspired on the very british J. R. R. Tolkien imaginary. Tolkien wrote some of my favorite books, ever: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. You'll soon be able to buy them with discount here. |
