Deconstructing Harry is a 1998 Woody Allen's movie. Here you can seen the case of its NewLine DVD edition [region 1].

DH as viewed from another angle. You can spot Robin Williams (not out of focus - private joke for those who watched the film).

Delta Force 2's Whistle Stop mission starts throwing you out of a flying helicopter, and landing on the top of a moving train.

After erasing enemies in the train, you must run and "clean" the railway station...

Woody Allen / Deconstructing Harry

Last friday I bought the region 1 DVD Deconstructing Harry [DH], a 1998 motion picture, directed by Woody Allen, which also stars as Harry Block, a writer who tends to write "fictional" books, which are no more than his own real life, with slight changes on people's names :)

Harry has gone through 3 wives, 6 psychiatrists, dozens of girlfriends and - probably - hundreds of occasional sex partners, as he has a problem: (quoting his own words) "I want to fuck every woman I know".

This has got to be Woody Allen at its very best, but also showing a different attitude towards filming. Allen never played such a sex-oriented character, and I have no memory of a movie with so many different famous actors and actresses. You have Billy Crystal, Demi Moore, Elisabeth Shue, Julia Dreyfus, Robin Williams, Mariel Hemingway and dozens of other quite popular Hollywood animals! It is a superb zoo!

Now that I am writing about it, I find Deconstructing Harry similar to Robert Altman's Shortcuts, one of my absolute favorites. The similarities come not from the story, but from its diversity. While in Deconstructing Harry the many stories are 100% related to Harry, in Shortcuts there is no central personage, despite people being more related! Of course that you can not understand how can this be, if you've never watched DH... - suffices to say that many of DH's stories don't really happen in real (movie) life :) Confusing.

As Rolling Stone magazine wrote, DH is hilarious. I had a great time with Harry's psychiatrist wife, when she starts arguing about Harry (quoting her own words) "having fucked her patient"... This argument happens when a male patient is being examined, and minutes after too much screaming, the man starts to cry...

Some other unforgettable episodes, are Harry kidnapping his own son, from the hands of an hysterical Mariel Hemingway, when he was in need of company, for an homage to himself, at his old school. The night before the homage, Harry had no one to do the long travel with him, but in the next morning he rides a Volvo with a sexy black in pink prostitute [named Cookie!], a cardiac friend and his son. The friend will die during the travel, plus the police will arrest him for kidnapping, and the homage will only happen in dreams!! Just great!

The DVD edition of the movie is Dolby Digital [DD] Stereo. NOT Dolby Digital 5.1. Many people think that DD always stands for 5.1 configurations, but that is not so. In fact DD stands for a family of algorithms that can handle from single / mono source to 6 channels audio data. You can however listen the movie in Dolby Surround, as Dolby Pro Logic is possible from any stereo source.

As with the best Region 1 DVDs, New Line's Deconstructing Harry has two sides. Side A offers you a "modified to fit your 4:3 screen" version [blaargh!], side B offers you a 1:85:1 presentation [yeah!].

In Europe, some Region 2 DVDs are sold without the widescreen format, which is something abominable! I remember buying Disney's Flubber and almost vomiting the floor, after checking the disrespect! DVDs in Europe are also much more expensive than in the USA, plus some stupid politicians are wanting to tax e-commerce, which has got to be the dumbest thing to do in centuries! No more comments.

Portugal is kind of a paradise in Europe, as the country always respected the original language of the shows. As soon as you cross the border to Spain, Bart Simpson and Bill Clinton start to speak spanish, which is quite strange. But we have our problems: for example, there is a government institute that only allows the sale of imported material, after stamping it. This slows access to culture a lot! And they also tend to apply the stamp on places where it would be much better not having it.

I own PT copy #0001 of Deconstructing Harry! Just a curiosity.

Delta Force 2, the return

I returned to Delta Force 2 [DF2], after dumping the official NVIDIA Detonator drivers, for the original TNT chipset, and going back to Creative Labs' October 1999 software. NVIDIA drivers have problems with games such as DF2 and GTA2, which is a shame, as these problems are known for months and are yet to be addressed. It seems that only the GeForce 256 is deserving NVIDIA's attention these days.

I completed DF2's "Operation Common Resolve", receiving no special messages, just like NovaLogic did with the original Delta Force... Couldn't they code some simple greetings message?

But "Operation Global Enforcement" is yet to be finished, and it is much harder, at least for my playing [sniper] style. DF2 is much better than the original DF, but only gamers that go this deep into the game can really understand that. Remember to download the latest patch!

A DVD, a keyboard and milk do combine! Watch the movie, drink the milk and write about it. It will help you not to forget.

Zoom OUT? No, in fact it is a zoom in.

Why on Earth did they give you a white uniform for a no snow battlefield is a question without answer, that makes your life very hard at "Critical Mass".

Critical Mass gets you saving hostages, but the escape route is as dangerous as the insides where you found them.
