1 - Babe, a pig in the city (DVD review)

The pig and the duck are back for one of those movies you can't forget. Babe's story is so unique that it really is hard to miss it.

Babe had luck with its DVD release: nice picture quality and plenty of features.

Babe, a pig in the city

DVD edition (Europe / region 2 / PAL)

I am very much into the so called children's movies these days. Suddenly I got fed up with films that support the entire story on bullets, explosions and deaths. Sure I still appreciate great action pictures, but I am more demanding than ever and recent "children's software" showed me a quality on story, photography and music, that I simply am not finding on "regular" software.

Even for audio purposes, children's movies are easily beating their adult equivalents... and when it comes to Disney's productions (not the case with BPIC), then you are in for smashing musical moments.

"Babe, a pig in the city" [BPIC] is the follow up to the original "Babe", where the world meets the first pig with... sheep-herding abilities. In fact, babe is so great on sheep-herding that he ends winning a prize for just that.

The imagination required to write a "babe story" is immense. When you are first watching the movie, you'll be amazed with the lip-syncing techniques that really make it look like animals are speaking english :).

But you'll soon forget "how hard it is to believe such stuff" and about the tech issues involved; when that happens, your imagination will ride a superb story on friendship, force of will, and great values, in general.

Babe is back in BPIC... this time he will not win a herding prize, though the first minutes will convince you that story is about to be repeated.

I am not a spoiler, so I'll just write that in order to win a much needed money prize, the pig goes overseas, under guidance of Mrs. Hoggett. The money, should Babe win the competition, will save the farm from a terrible financial situation.

As soon as Babe changes scenario, problems begin: hotels don't accept animals; city animals aren't kind; and things go so wrong that the contest's deadline is not met...

Babe will teach that a kind and steady heart can mend a sorry world.

This is a great comedy, for everyone willing to laugh a different laugh :).

My DVD (PAL) edition features some bonus (production notes + trailer + screensavers + filmographies) and a "real" 1.85:1 widescreen presentation of the title, with great picture quality.

Highly recommended.

Isn't this pig cute? It seems that I am not the only one thinking so, as pigs have become some of the most popular pets, in the USA.

Babe's chances in showbiz are ending. As this pig grows bigger, he becomes less attractive. But he will not end like sausage... I think.
