Luthienne - a suicidal girl, that will give you your first nightmare @ UT.

You can run, but you can't hide...

Unreal Tournament PLUS

Ah! How I missed a few hours spent on splashing adversaries to pieces! Unreal Tournament [UT] is - have no doubt! - the best game you can buy on the tournament / fight-against-bots subject!

Day 22 November 1999, I've pointed the main arguments that make me prefer UT to Quake 3 Arena [Q3A], but the article was written after the demos, and not based on the final products, which are now available. Demos are becoming a really great way to tell about the commercial software they represent, at least if the UT and the Q3A downloads are symptomatic of the scene.

However, playing the commercial versions of Q3A and UT highlights a very significant difference, that I didn't notice, months ago. The difference is the much higher aiming accuracy that the UT 3D engine allows: you can hit enemies with pixel perfection, while in Q3A you sometimes feel that the shot was good, yet you didn't score a frag.

Another "new" difference, is the stronger personality of the UT enemies - they are richer, as they really have different abilities. For example, Luthienne [the yellow girl, on the left column], is one of the hardest bots you'll face, as it has suicidal tendencies! She dares a lot; she dives into every chance! On the other hand, Slain [not pictured] is a very tactical dude: he knows when it is a good time to strike, and will only go for it when it looks like the best occasion. Kryss [black & white, on your right] is a much easier enemy... and you'll really learn all these differences! Great!

Tomorrow, I will publish a deeper article on Quake 3 Arena. Yeah, I'll be back to the daily updates!

Calameth is a cross of aggressivity and tactics.

Kryss is easy.
