1 - Computer Science Weblog (for September 2000)

Which one do you prefer? A cute CG face, or a dumb tired human presenter? Not an easy answer, right? It depends on who is who.

Just like my humanoid a la VRML (check the CS Projects page) the CG presenters in TVML follow the H-anim specification.

Argo UML is on the Tigris project. The JDK 1.1.1 is no longer supported.

Computer Science WEBLOG for September 2000

Here are the best URLs, related to Computer Science, I visited during September 2000.

This really is Computer Science / Hypermedia at its best! These japanese investigators do have the edge on everyone else, from my POV.

TVML is a system for the production of TV programs in real time, using computer graphics personages, computer synthesized voices, and many other media... "glued" together via a script language.

The script language is the Television program Making Language (TVML). TVML can be used to describe plenty of tv production / making commands, such as "ZoomOut" and "ZoomIn", and then generate the whole thing.

It is about time to start kicking some TV presenters arses! Nowadays, some TV presenters think they can / should add something to the news, so some infamous people started doing jokes, doing comic faces and other intrusive maneuvers, while on screen. Fear TVML you morons!

TVML supports "studio shot" using CG characters on CG studios, titling using HTML-like text, superimposing, sound and narration.

Maybe I'll do my TV programs with TVML :) but first, I must learn it...

ARGO is a *free* tool for UML modeling. This is really great software, considering the price Rational is charging for its Rose suite.

UML stands for Unified Modeling. Language and is now a standard for the description of modeling. processes, be it applied to traditional business, software development, etc...

More free UML tools. I prefer ARGO's.

http://www.blender.nl/

Blender is a 100% free 3D tool, that is starting to do some damage on the big boys, at least when it comes to small software houses.

These japanese are the brains behind TVML. Its a superb idea, but I really can't tell about how good it is, since I still didn't produce a TV show myself :)

TVML brings "real life" TV concepts to your desktop.

Honeywell is the big name supporting the DOME project.
