WinPlas - an unusual software, that can help biologists working on plasmids.
Davide Mauri - and its "abstract art". However, his website is NOT (very far from it) just about pretty pictures.
Oasis - Everything you ever wanted to know about XML, but didn't even know it could be asked :).
hikey - a different website. |
Computer Science Weblog - from my March 2001 Net
excursions
http://www.goldsteinsoftware.com - Biology and Computer Science, have never been so close. And it is not only in bringing natural life paradigms to software building; it is also about having better tools for biologists. Goldstein software sells a superb plasmid software drawing kit. Plasmids are small circles of DNA, that can replicate independently of chromosomal DNA, like in bacteria. Identifying plasmids that give bacteria resistance to drugs, is the job of many biologists, but drawing a schematic composition of some of these portions can be a daunting task... now made easier, with Goldstein's Winplas! http://www.vader.eeng.brad.ac.uk - Nowadays everyone and his dog is talking about networks' security, security algorithms, etc... like if these subjects were easy or kind of static, deserving no more than a scratch on the surface. But no - these subjects, like everything else on Computer Science these days, are damn hard to get deep into... yet you have a superb place where to learn about them. Check the aforementioned URL for massive doses of it... http://users.interfriends.net/MauriD - Davide Mauri is one of those people who "play all the instruments". Not only he goes deep on programming affaires, such as the crypting, as mentioned above, but he also shows an unusual aptitude for digital art. It is because of its "abstract art" feature, that I am recommending a visit to its website. http://www.firetoads.com - Now that diy (do it yourself) screensaver tools pop up everywhere, one would fear less imagination on screensavers. Firetoad shows the world, how much BETTER than average screensavers can get - just check their "ectosaver" demo. Better yet, download the free source for a relatively old game, entirely written in C language. http://www.oasis-open.org - Oasis is "the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, is a non-profit, international consortium that creates interoperable industry specifications based on public standards such as XML and SGML, as well as others that are related to structured information processing". Uff... In other words: far more XML than you can handle! http://www.hikey.f2s.com - Oh, the joy of learning! Here is an example for everyone on the planet: after trying to develop a certain software tool using Visual Basic, this person understood the "limitations", and jumped on learning (visual) C. But the best thing is the whole different look of the website, showing that guidelines can (some should) be ignored, and yet you can achieve great results! http://www.totaldb.com - I still didn't try it, but Dark Basic is said NOT to be your average basic language... This is a RAD tool, aimed at games development. I should try it. |
Simon Shepherd - one the big heads, on brad.ack.uk.
Firetoad - superb offers on their website!
Total DarkBasic - your greatest resource for Dark Basic. |
