1 - WinIndexer (version 1.0 gone public)

WinIndexer 1.0 - there are two NEW major functions: the display of misc dates about the findings, and the output of a txt file that can be imported from all major database / spreadsheet apps.

The sole dialog box - you'll have to understand. Check this picture to understand it fully, right now.

WinIndexer 1.0 (gone public)

On the 060101 update, I presented a software tool for searching volumes (local and remote hard disks or FDs) and auto-generating a HTML page for where users can browse to the matches of their searches. Today, you can download the latest version of that tool (version 1.0).

Here are the major changes, since the previous version (0.5A):

#1) fixed a bug that caused the HTML to miss the first character of some matches;

#2) you now have the option to display some time information, about the files that match your search criteria: the last time the file was written, the last time the file was accessed, and the time the file was created.

#3) the software now has the option to (also) output a text file that can be imported from all major database/spreadsheet applications, such as Microsoft's Access/Excel.

I developed this tool for my personal use, but I believe that it should be very useful for most people. In fact, if you search the usual apps sites, you'll find plenty of software that searches and indexes contents, but you *always* have to go through the ordeal of #1) installing the package; #2) read a bit about how to use it; #3) and test if it really suits your needs... and, at the end, it might overshot what you really wanted.

ArturMarques.com's WinIndexer couldn't more simple: #1) its a 36 KB EXE, that requires no install; #2) just download and launch it; #3) type your search criteria (example: "*.mpg"), input the name of the HTML file that should hold the search results (example: "mpg.htm"), wait a few seconds (<1 minute each 20000 files), and #3) use your browser to navigate the findings.

Click for a picture of the software, after a search.

The browser can be auto-launched, as an option, on the app's dialog box interface; you can also select to output a text file that can be imported from all database software.

There is no help file; read the 060101 update for a brief guide, although the software is *really* self explanatory.

This software is totally free. You can distribute it, copy it, offer it, do whatever you want with it, EXCEPT to change it. If you distribute it, please be polite and tell me.

Download WinIndexer 1.0 (win32 36K exe).

Detail - of a completed search.

When a search completes - browse the auto generated HTML to access the findings.
