1 - MP3 files #3 (Mão Morta)

Mão Morta - CD front cover for "Mão Morta Revisitada".

"Mutantes s.21" - was my first "Mão Morta" CD-A.

MP3 Files #3 - sample the superb Mão Morta (PT band)

I have had enough of conventional love lyrics: "...you're so pretty...", "...my heart cries for you...", "...I'll never forget you...", "...you make the sadness go away...", "...you're the most beautiful being...", "...you this, you that...". Argh.

When some performer(s) perform what I am calling "conventional love lyrics", they'd better do it superbly well, or the end result is yet another crap. It is when you reach this stage, of being uncapable to listen what most of the music industry tries to smash into your ears, that you start looking for alternative creators. Mão Morta are an alternative to almost everything, because they are quite unique.

As with most of my musical preferences, I have to thanks António Silva, aka Zoid, for the day he made me first listen Mão Morta. I really can't remember the details, but like so many other occasions, it probably happened at Alferrarede, on Zoid's parents home, on his small Sony stereo... Yes, I can already picture myself listening to someone screaming, with plenty of impetuous instruments backing him up...

"Him" was/is Adolfo Luxúria Canibal, a brilliant artistic name for someone who really never ate human flesh - I think... To be honest and go straight to the point, the single out-of-the-ordinary aspect with Mão Morta, is their lyrics, which really show a great care, sentence after sentence. These detoxifying lyrics are brilliantly vocalized and orchestrated, and the product they sell clearly scores ahead of the pack.

I like Mão Morta - you might not; but give it a try it! This time I am making available two MP3 files, each consisting of 1 minute of audio, from the first track of the albums "Mutantes S.21" and "Mão Morta Revisitada".

The songs are in european portuguese, and they are quite... ahm... dark, even bloody, but nothing metal or mystic.

I leave you with one of the most superb (and short) Mão Morta lyrics, that DOES NOT correspond to any of the MP3 songs, but gives you a strong hint of the overall Canibal style...

Here is the original/portuguese version of the song; then you have a very free english translation of it:

E se depois
O sangue ainda correr
Corre atrás dele

E se depois
O fogo te perseguir
Aquece-te nele

E se depois
O desejo partir
Consome-te nele

E se depois
O sangue ainda correr
Corre atrás dele

E se depois
E se depois

the blood still runs
run after it

and, if after
the fire pursuits you
warm yourself on it

and, if after
the desire sparks in
burn yourself on it

and, if after
the blood still runs
run after it

and, if after
and, if after
