GP4 Hotlaps - burning digital rubber My virtual racing team - APR / Alain Prost Racing - is back. I've been competing in some Internet championships, just for the fun, and I think that I am still competitive. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to practice, and the following laps are all achieved with zero helps, in less than one hour, running under full simulation ace mode, with a processor occupancy below 60%. These are my best laps, with very brief comments. Please notice that I use a force feedback analogue steering wheel. Download any lap, then unzip it using any archive utility, like winrar or winzip. After that, you can watch it on your GP4, by selecting "load" from the main menu. Australia - 01:26:742 - quite an impressive lap, using nothing but the default setup. I've seen faster laps, but all driven either with a joystick (device that allows absurdly fast change of directions) or with frame rates below the maximum, thus benefiting from the well known "slow motion" advantage. Bah! Drive high quality "realistic" laps, please. Canada - 01:15:546 - I am far from mastering the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. Its very hard to achieve a brilliant time here, without extensive setup studying. This circuit is a terrible mix of very fast straights, followed by slow chicanes. Indianapolis - 01:10:450 - this is a superb lap, that can only be improved on its final 1/3. I enjoy Indianapolis, because it makes you sweat - its physically demanding! Magny Cours - 01:11:952 - I am a natural at Magny Cours. I recon this is a very fast lap, but I can repeat it easily. This means that I can lower the stake, some 0.5 seconds, at least. Monza - 01:21:671 - this time was achieved using the default setup. It can probably be much improved, by trying lighter aerodynamics, but I simply don't dig Monza - its a boring circuit. Nurburgring - 01:14:494 - this is a wonderful circuit. I usually do "full races" at Nurburgring, but I rarely practice there. Its no surprise that I have better laps, all driven on race mode. SPA - 01:46:159 - the king of circuits!, now out of the official 2003 F1 calendar... I believe that the best "realistic" lap at SPA, will identify the best F1 digital driver. Suzuka - 01:32:032 - I love Suzuka so much, that only SPA comes first in my preferences. This is a great lap of mine - I regret that I couldn't make it to the high 31s. |
GP4 Hotlaps on a Prost (#5) - yet another chicane.
GP4 Hotlaps on a Prost (#6) - smoking is bad for your health.
GP4 Hotlaps on a Prost (#7) - inside smoke, corresponding to the external view above.
GP4 Hotlaps on a Prost (#8) - these (schum) days, its better than the real thing! |
