Longwave - (#1) - truly promising! |
Music can have truly great effects on a person's mood. Unfortunately, as people grow older, they tend to listen music less regularly, often forgetting how inspiring it can be... a bit like the first kiss, or the first true love, when legs shake and voice trembles - delicious sensations expected to be replaced by stable and closed relationships, society obliges. Longwave is a relatively new New York band, that I first listened thanks to a very low quality recording of their 2003-02-28 concert at "The Monarch". I was quite impressed with the overall energetic ambiance of the event and decided to buy their "Advance" album. Brilliant decision! I am really, really enjoying it. "Advance" strongly reminds me of my very first CD-Audio: U2's "Unforgettable Fire". Of course that for most people one thing has nothing to do with the other; but, strangely, I can't avoid feeling the exact same emotional charge that I did (and do) when I go back to U2's golden days. "Advance" track #1 - wake me when its over - is just superb! The opening guitars set the bullish must-do-it attitude that reigns for the whole album! Track #4 - I know its coming someday - insists on that trend and you really get charged: if you are into sports, you'll end up trying hard to improve your marks; if you are into stocks, you'll end up fighting the bears; the idea is: this album should motivate you. You can download the first 60 seconds of the first track here... It is a 192 kbps MP3 rip of the original CD-A, which should give you a taste of what to really expect. I don't intend to harm Longwave's sales (on the contrary!), so if you find the file damaging, please let me know and I'll remove it. Finally, here is the band's promotional "bla bla": <quote starts :)> "The Strangest Things" is the major label debut of New York's Longwave. Initially discovered while opening for the Strokes at Maxwell's in Hoboken, Longwave have gone on to tour the US and Europe with the aforementioned Strokes, The Vines, Ok Go!, and The Donnas. Combining the anthems of U2 and the introspection of early REM, "The Strangest Things," produced by Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev producer Dave Fridmann, is already garnering high praise for the band with Rolling Stone touting them as "one of New York's hottest live bands", and England's NME simply saying "FUCKING AMAZING." </quote ends> Download a 60 seconds MP3@192 kbps sample of "wake me when its over". Just *right*-click the hyperlink and choose "save as" to wherever you want. In order to play the file, you'll need a MP3 player - if you still don't have one, I suggest you to download winamp. Best possible prices for "The Strangest Things" (CD-Audio) are: for european costumers: http://www.amazon.co.uk (10.99£ ~ 15.97€*) [direct link to item] for american costumers: http://www.amazon.com (10.99 USD) [direct link to item] |
