The Da Vinci Code (2006)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382625/
I read the book, some time before it became a mass phenomenon, but I quit reading when the plot twisted to present Sir Leigh Teabing as the one who was orchestrating the finding of the Grail. That is near the end. By then, it became so obvious that the book had been written aiming a Hollywood adaptation, that some of its strong events, collapsed by the heaviness of the shallowness of the plot twisting, just to surprise viewers.
The movie is a conservative approach to the book, casting very famous actors and actresses, with a cinematography strongly glued to the average action recipes: car chases, jet planes and some running. The problem is the flash-backs! I can’t stand flash-backs – they usually are the easiest, less imaginative solution to tell something that occurred in the past. Flash-backs are disruptive and that shows (a lot) in The Da Vinci Code.
Just like in the book, I completely switched off when Sir Teabing showed its true skin. The final minutes are so boring and void of meaning that, for me, it is a mystery exactly what they are trying to achieve: to hide the Grail?
Yet another average action movie.
My rating: 5.5/10
